Colored Sand

Catherine has a treasure box of toys in our closet.  She gets to pick a toy out each Friday afternoon if she has gotten "blue dots" for good behavior at school every day that week.  Last week (well, really two weeks ago - but it took me awhile to get this project going), she picked out a Sand Art Kit.

I set the girls up outside on the deck for this project.  They loved it, so intensely spreading colored sand on their pictures!  After they finished making their pictures, Catherine filled a vase and Sabrina mixed a bunch of colored sand together.
Catherine made the aquarium picture and Sabrina made the elephant picture.
We used projects like this at Christmas time.  If you have never done it before, it is pretty neat.  You simply remove stickers and sprinkle sand, section by section.
Catherine loved the cute little funnel that came with the kit:
I was pretty sure that I bought this Sand Art Kit for a dollar at Michael's.  The girls loved it so much that I went back to Michael's to get some more kits.  Sadly, I couldn't find any.  So maybe it was somewhere else where I bought it, or maybe they are out of those kits.  But, it was a great deal for a dollar!
