Praying for the Princesses

Every night we sit in a circle with the girls, hold hands and say a basic prayer: “Dear God. Thank you for Mommy, thank you for Daddy, thank you for Catherine, and thank you for Sabrina. We pray that everyone have a good night’s sleep. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

We are still working on the girls sitting still and not giggling and talking during prayer. About once a week, Catherine will say the prayer for us. It is so precious to hear her voice praying! After the prayer, we do good night kisses and put the girls in bed.

Recently I walked by the girls’ room about ten minutes after we put them to bed. I could hear Catherine talking, so I opened the door. I wish I had had my camera to photograph what I saw on her bed. She had put all of her princess dolls on her bed in a circle, holding hands. She was in the circle too and was praying “Dear God, thank you for Cinderella, thank you for Belle, thank you for Sleeping Beauty …” It was so cute!

The next night, as we were getting ready for night prayers, Catherine wanted to include the Sleeping Beauty doll in our family's circle. Robby said that Sleeping Beauty can be in the circle with us but we would not pray for a doll. Catherine (like the drama queen any four year old can be) started crying - instantly. I wanted to head off a complete meltdown, so I said to Catherine "You can pray with her later by yourself if you want, but right now we will just pray for the family." That calmed her down and allowed us to proceed.
