Cagle's Farm

Cagle's Farm recently hosted the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children to its corn maze and event for a weekend of fun. We had a great time!

I have never been to a corn maze before, so I don't know what they are normally like.  This one was very well done.  The paths were wide and well defined.  They had two mazes, one was 15-20 minutes and the other one was 30-45 minuted.  We took the shorter path.  It was very hot, so we chose not to do the longer one.  If we wanted to, we could have done the mazes several times.  They did have staff members wandering around in the maze to point people in the right direction.
I was shocked at how high the corn was - at least 3 feet taller than I am!  The girls pretended they were scarecrows!
We also let the girls take turns picking which direction we should take each time we had a choice.
Cagle's also had a big "corn box" full of dried corn kernels and plastic tractors, bulldozers, etc.  We have no trucks at home, so the girls had a lot of fun playing in the corn box.  It was also one of the few areas which had a roof and, therefore, shade.

We had a blast on the gigantic whoopee cushions!
Sabrina is taking cheer leading this year and has to learn some jumps.  So I dug deep (seriously deep!) into my past and showed her a split jump:
 A tuck jump:
 And a side hurdle jump:
Catherine does not like being outside in the heat, so she spent a lot of time in the pavilion.  She got a bunch of dried corn kernels from the corn box.  We divided them up into groups of five and practiced skip counting.
They also had fun on the horsey-tire swings:
Cagle's also had a hay ride, farm tour, and some other things.  But, we didn't get to do all of it.  We did have a blast.  Cagle's was very well maintained with lots to do, a great staff and a beautiful, huge corn maze!

Clear Contact Paper

As you know I waste spend a lot of time on other people's blogs looking for ideas.  I have seen lots of people make art projects with clear contact paper.  So, several months ago I bought a roll.  I put it on a shelf and forgot about it for awhile.

Finally, I pulled it out and we used it.  The girls had a blast with this new tool.  First, we took tiny purple flowers and green leaves, spread them out on a sheet of construction paper, then covered it with contact paper.  Wow, we had made place mats:
Then we made a bunch of bookmarks:
The girls really loved peeling the contact paper backing off:

Fall Trees... and Then Other Trees

Now that it is October, I wanted to do a fall project.  I drew stick trees and gave the girls a little bit of orange, yellow and red paint.  They loved using their fingertips to make leaves!  I am constantly impressed with my kids.  Both of them told me they are going to put some leaves on the ground and some in the air on the way to the ground, because leaves fall off the trees in the fall.
While we were doing the fall trees, Catherine asked me if we can do winter, spring and summer trees.  This was not in my plan, but I went with their excitement.  Catherine's class at school has been studying seasons and weather, so I think that is where she got the idea.  Here's Sabrina putting snowflakes on a bare tree:
I was so proud of Catherine when she made little tiny leaves on her spring tree, telling me that in the spring the leaves are just sprouts, so they are smaller.

Split Tree at Church

Last weekend we went to our church to take some pictures on the grounds there. We came upon this neat split tree and asked the girls to look in between the two trunks. They thought it was so cool!

We tried to get a picture with both of the girls between the two trunks, but it didn't work. Maybe next time.

Leaf Fight!!

Usually I would never want to photograph our girls fighting, but we staged this one. They had a blast throwing leaves at each other.

Even though it isn't fall, I love these pictures - leaves up to your knees and falling all around the girls!

Sabrina really got into it!

The girls did a lot of giggling when we buried them in leaves yesterday.

Camp Sunshine's Fall Festival

Last weekend we went to Camp Sunshine's Fall Festival. Sabrina dressed as a UGA cheerleader and Catherine dressed as Tinkerbell (to match her cast). Their favorite activity was making sand art. Unfortunately, the table was too high for them to reach, so we had to put the trays of sand on the ground for them. The weather was great and we all had a fabulous time.
