Giving Blood

For Catherine's 6th birthday, we decided to host a community blood drive in conjunction with her party.  Robby has given blood several times before, but I never had.  I was quite uneasy about it, but had to give.  Catherine needed whole blood transfusions and platelet transfusions throughout the last few months of her chemo treatment, so I felt we had to give back.

Here's Robby giving blood:
 And me:
They parked a Bloodmobile in the pool's parking lot.  Inside that Bloodmobile there are 4 beds and 3 interview rooms.  I was afraid it would be claustrophobic, but it wasn't.  It was actually quite nice inside because it was air conditioned.  The party was in August, so it was very hot.

We ended up collecting 32 pints of blood, each of which can help 3 separate people.  In addition to the 32 people who were able to donate, several were deferred from donating for various reasons.  Plus, a lot of spouses and friends helped our drive by watching children swimming while parents donated.
