One of our New Year's Resolutions with the girls is to become more intentional with them about spiritual teaching. So, each Sunday we will teach a Bible story, accompanied by a craft. We skipped Jan. 2 because we had just come back from a week at Disney and were all exhausted.
Robby is using a children's Bible which our friend Maya gave us. It has lots of pictures and the kids love it. He does a great job reading the stories to them very interactively, making sure they pay attention and learn a little (at least the names of the characters and places).
Week One's Bible story was Creation. I cannot find the pictures on the computer. As soon as I do, I'll post them. But, you can see the craft we made because Robby started this week's lesson with a review of last week's lesson. We made a long poster with 7 pictures on it, each representing one of the days of Creation. The girls basically pasted all the days on their posters and colored them. Here are the girls listening to the story (and they really do listen to him!) with last week's craft at the far left and their blank posters.
As Robby read to the girls about Adam and Eve eating an apple, they all acted out BITING AN APPLE. Here is Sabrina (they were in pajamas because we did it right before bed):
The craft this week was a smaller poster (11 x 17) which was divided in half. The top half was labeled "In the Garden of Eden" and the girls glued pretty pictures of flowers on it. The bottom half was labeled "After Disobeying God" and consisted of 6 pictures showing the temptation of Adam and Eve, their fall, and their banishment from the Garden of Eden.
Catherine loves the children's Bible Robby uses and looks at the picture all the time. It seems a little odd to me, but the apple tree in the Bible has purple apples. So, Catherine colored hers purple too:
Catherine also noticed that in the picture of Adam and Eve leaving the Garden of Eve, the two were crying. She asked me why and I explained that they were sad that God was punishing them and they could no longer live in the wonderful garden. Catherine drew tears on her Adam and Eve too:
I am curious to see how these Bible lessons will work out as the year progresses. Will the girls retain much of it? Will we be able to get deeper with it? Will we have the discipline to be consistent?
