Two Extra Tubes

After Catherine's kidney surgery, she had two extra tubes. The small one is the end of the ureter stint. The big tube is a nephrostomy tube (probably misspelled), which drained her left kidney. We had to put two diapers on Catherine for awhile, so that we could measure the output of the nephrostomy tube. We kept this whole thing covered with a special non-adhesive yet sticky patch called a Mepilex patch. The long scar is from her kidney surgery and hopefully will fade over time.

Catherine was unable to swim or get immersed in a bath while these tubes were in her, so we had to sponge bathe her. Catherine actually got good at leaning her head over the bath tub so I could wash her hair. Of course we are happy that modern medicine has developed all of these specialty items used to protect her, but we are thrilled these tubes are out of her!!
