Fearless

During the summer we spend almost every day at the neighborhood pool. We love the relaxing times and the fabulous physical exercise the children get. Both have become very comfortable in the water, especially Sabrina. She is completely fearless. We have to keep a close eye on her, because she will just walk straight into the water, whether we are nearby or not. She doesn't seem to think it is important that someone be in the water to catch her if she jumps in.

One of the reasons I think the girls are so comfortable in the water is the baby pool which is at our neighborhood pool. The girls have spent hours in there and have been able to put their faces under water and still be in control. Sometimes they will pour water from one bucket to another, over and over again. I have no idea why that is so fascinating, but I love the innocence and intensity of that activity.

Another child left a kickboard in the baby pool, which Sabrina started playing with today. Exploration is so important at the pool and Sabrina figuring out how to use a kickboard on her own is such a treat to watch. We never gave her the kickboard. We never told her to use it. We never showed her how to use it. Perhaps she saw another child using it. Perhaps it is intuitively obvious how to use a kickboard. I am not sure. But I love how she explores new challenges independently.

Sabrina is fearless. It will be fascinating to see how this element of her personality develops over the years.
