Log Cabin

I try to read a chapter book to the girls every day.  We have read two of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books.  We just read Little House in the Big Woods, in which the family moves across country and builds a cabin on the prairie.  The girls love the book, so we decided to make a log cabin like Laura, Mary and Baby Carrie lived in.  We made ours out of pretzel rods, peanut butter, and graham crackers.

During construction, Sabrina sampled the building materials:
 Here is our final product:
It's a good thing that we do not have to live in the log cabin we built, because one of our side walls collapsed, resulting in significant structural failure.  The end result does look pathetic.

Oh well, at least the girls had fun and we were able to incorporate some of our reading into a craft project, making the book "come alive" for the girls.
