Grammar and Phonics Posters

A lot of the first grade curriculum is beginner grammar and phonics.  It is hard to make this interesting.  Besides describing the lesson and giving Catherine work sheets, it is hard to really spend some time on it.  So, we have been making posters related to the grammar lessons:

I doubt Sabrina really understood what a helping verb is, but she loves making posters with us.  I think Catherine understands that a helping verb helps describe the action of another verb

We hang these posters up in the school room.  Both girls frequently refer to them when they need reminders.  Here is Catherine making posters about the sounds GH, WR, PH, and KN:

Catherine still needs a lot of cutting practice, so I give her a lot of posters to make.
