Last weekend we did a fun chemistry experiment: we made volcanoes. Of course I have no idea what the chemistry is behind this experiment and didn't even pretend to teach it to the girls. I simply found this project and the directions on the internet and we recreated it at home.
Robby filled a flower vase half full with vinegar and added red and blue food coloring (to make purple):
Then Robby added a few drops of dish washing soap and stirred. Lastly, Robby added a big spoonful of baking soda. The girls watched in amazement as the colored liquid instantly foamed up, spilling over the top of the flower vase.
I love the expressions of amazement on the girls' faces!
I am glad we decided to put the flower vase on a cookie sheet - this is a messy project!
We also made a large green volcano.
