Robby took Catherine to the hospital on Monday. Her hemoglobin levels (which were very low last week – causing her to be very lethargic) returned to normal on their own BUT her platelet levels have nosedived to 61,000 – if they get below 30,000 she’ll get a transfusion. Normal is around 300,000. She has to have 100,000 in order to get chemo. So, we are going back to the hospital on Wednesday morning – if her platelets have not gone back up, she may get a transfusion and they’ll cancel Thursday’s bladder surgery. Hopefully they will be high enough to get the surgery on Thursday. She appears to be feeling fine and had a blast at Sunday’s Fall Festival at Camp Sunshine. I’ll post pictures soon.
The surgery by the way is to correct her bladder reflux – apparently when she contracts her bladder her urine goes out of her body and back up into her kidneys. This is causing stagnant urine to stay in her body too long and giving her lots of infections.
Sabrina is doing awesome – she has a ravenous appetite and is a brave eater. She even ate some pickled ginger when we went out for sushi a few days ago. She is getting very good at sitting up on her own. Oddly, she figured out how to pull up and cruise around the furniture BEFORE she learned to sit up – the physical therapists were in a state because she developed her gross motor skills OUT OF ORDER. They like every child to fit into their graphs perfectly. Neither one of my kids follows professional charts very well (especially Catherine and the growth chart).
Thank you for all the prayers and support. We are on a roller coaster of emotions based on Catherine’s CBC results. Every few days the situation seems to change. At least the tumor is almost gone, per the last MRI. Our next MRI is on Dec. 15.
