Update - Postponed Kidney Surgery

As you know, Catherine was scheduled to have her kidney surgery tomorrow, May 28th at Egleston Hospital. This has been postponed because her platelet count was too low and her white blood cell count was bad (I am not sure if it was too high or too low, it was just unacceptable to the oncologists). Robby spent almost the whole day at Egleston, and then at Scottish Rite, trying to get this straight. Catherine has been feeling fine, so we were surprised that her blood work came back bad from Egleston. So, the Scottish Rite Cancer Center had him come in again in the afternoon to redo the blood work. They thought there was a possibility that her first blood draw of the day (at Egelston) might have been contaminated. But, the numbers were still bad.

Anyway, the urologist will try to reschedule it for next week, hoping that another week off of chemo will allow her blood work to rebound.

Apparently when your blood counts are bad like this, you are more at risk of getting an infection from the surgery.

We’ll let you know what is re-scheduled as soon as we know.
